Our Favorite Fall Activities with a Toddler
Nature provides endless inspiration for activities to do with kids. S loves being outside and one of the benefits of living up north is the obvious change in seasons. It's great for her to be able to experience it!
Here are some of our favorite fall activities with a toddler: (bonus: they're low cost and do not take much planning!)
Walk outside. We're lucky to live in a place that's got a good-sized yard with some woods behind it, but if you don't have that kind of space, go for a hike or even just to the park! While you're outside with your kid, encourage them to look around for signs of the season—colorful leaves, leaves on the ground, acorns, etc. S likes to walk with a little basket to gather her fall treasures.
Paint a pumpkin. I haven't tried carving a pumpkin with S yet—maybe next year—but she had a blast painting a pumpkin! I think for a young toddler, painting is much easier than carving and still makes for a really fun fall activity!
Leaf crafts. With all of the leaves gathered, they make for easy crafts! Press and dry them, glue them onto paper, paint them, or do leaf rubbing. So many possibilities!
S likes to gather her leaves and dry them by pressing them between the pages of cookbooks (what we chose because we have some big, heavy cookbooks, but you can use any book). Then, she glues them onto paper to make collages or cards. So sweet—and they make great gifts!
Cookbooks are our favorite place to press and dry leaves and flowers for crafts. They’re great because they’re big, heavy books and available right in the kitchen!
There are so many autumn activities for toddlers put on by many community organizations or local farms and businesses, like hayrides, corn mazes, and pumpkin picking. We're personally looking forward to Halloween with our almost two-year old!
Whatever you are doing, kids or no kids, get out and celebrate the season!
