The Day of the Longest Night
On Sunday, December 21st, 2025, nature within the Northern Hemisphere observed the Winter Solstice. The Day of the Longest Night. And on December 22, we have the Day the Light Returns.
Since ancient times, the Winter Solstice has been observed with candles, reflection, and coming together with loved ones. Some historians believe that the early Christians may have chosen late December to celebrate the birth of Jesus to coincide with festivities already happening at this time.
During the days following, the days start to get a little longer. It starts almost unnoticeably, just seconds longer. But they start to pile up longer and longer, attracting the light like a magnet to metal. Like how hope is contagious.
As the days and weeks pass, the light starts to stretch outwards, reminding us that the night does not last forever. The light always returns.
