I Have a One-Year Old!

Y’all, I have a one-year old. This time last year, my girl was only a few days old, barely able to do anything apart from the most basic of bodily functions. Over the days, then weeks, then months that followed, she woke up more and more and learned so much.

Top Ten Highlights of the Past Year With B.G:

  1. Taking her home for the first time. We came home late and I remember it had been raining recently but was clear by that time. We got home and I gave B.G. her first bottle at our house on our living room sofa.

  2. When my best friend came to visit. B.G. was about ten weeks old and already had so much personality. She loved to be cuddled, loved to be walked around, and loved attention. She immediately recognized our guest as a friend/practically an aunt and reacted as such.

  3. Our first family outing. When she was four months, I was feeling much stronger. It was a beautiful spring day, mid-March, and we ventured across Lake Pontchartrain for the day. I remember how much she loved looking at the water especially.

  4. Having B.G. at work with me. I work at a day center for adults with developmental disabilities and B.G. comes to work with me every day since she was four months old. Because of this, she is used to being around a lot of different people! She loves the attention (and can also sleep through some commotion!).

  5. The first time she crawled. She was about seven and a half months old and seemed so eager but hesitant. One day, I held up her toy elephant, and said, “come get your elephant!” and she crawled over!

  6. Flying with B.G. She did so well! Her main complaint: not everyone on the plane wanted to pay attention to her all of the time.

  7. When B.G. met her relatives, especially my mom. Both of our families live in Maine, so on the one hand, it makes it sad not to have them close by, on the other hand, it was great being able to see everyone in one place.

  8. Her first steps. It was early October, and she had been cruising on furniture for a bit and then took tentative, wobbly, proud first steps. With about two weeks, those steps were very confident.

  9. Halloween with B.G. It was so cute to see her all dressed up! At close to a year old, she was old enough to love seeing the decorations, old enough to appreciate that something special was going on, and too young to want all the candy.

  10. B.G’s first birthday. It was a beautiful day! We went out to breakfast, up to the park, and did a video chat birthday party (for all the friends and family who live away).

I can’t wait to see what next year brings.

Thanks for reading!
