Friendship

Here’s to friendship. The friends I’ve known since grade school, middle school, and high school, the people who saw me through awkward years when we were trying to figure out growing up and trying to care about what teachers were saying. When we were trying on different personas like different clothes.

Here’s to friendship. The friends I made in college, because it’s true what they say—you never make friends like the ones you made in college, when new-found freedom and little responsibility collided in a dorm room or a student center.

Here’s to friendship. The friends I made while living and working at a boarding school and studying education. We are all better people for the time we spent there.

Here’s to friendship. The friends I’ve made as an adult, trying to fit in a movie night or drink out in between work. Finally, we’ve got money, but adult responsibilities.

Here’s to friendship. The friends I can always count on, regardless where we lived. Friends who gave support, encouragement, and love both in person and via phone and video calls.

Here’s to friendship. The friends who were up for random adventures and trying out new things.

Here’s to friendship. The friends who called or texted just to “check in.”

Here’s to friendship. The friends who were at my wedding and came to see B.G. when she was tiny or asked regularly about her.

Here’s to friendship—everyone in my life who makes it a little more special. I love you all.
