Three Non-toxic DIY Cleaners
Today on the blog, we have three non-toxic, easy-to-make cleaners using items you probably have on hand or can buy very just a few dollars.
Sticky Residue Cleaner
1 part vegetable oil (I used avocado oil)
2 parts baking soda
A few drops of citrus oil (optional)
Mix together. Store in a jar or container in a cool, dry place.
Tips:
Let the mixture sit on the sticky stuff for a few minutes.
This will still involve some scraping, but the sticky residue will be gone in the end!
Mixture will keep for several months.
You can use this on fabric, too, but it might stain.
All Purpose Cleaner
1 part white vinegar
2 parts water
Few drops of your favorite essential oil (optional)
Combine together in a spray bottle.
Tips:
White vinegar is a natural disinfectant, although there is a debate about exactly how effective it is. Be your own judge. Personally, it’s what I use in my kitchen.
White vinegar should not be used on stone counter tops.
Peppermint is supposed to help keep away ants and cockroaches. Lemon is great for a refreshing “kitchen” scent!
Dishwasher Cleaner
1 cup white vinegar
1 tbsp baking soda
Start with an empty dishwasher.
Pour the vinegar into two dishwasher-safe containers. Place on the top shelf.
Put the baking soda in the compartment where the dish washing soap goes.
Run the dish washer as normal.
Tip:
Running white vinegar through a dishwasher occasionally should be fine, but if you do it too often, the acid could break down parts of the dishwasher. We run this a white vinegar cycle about every six months. Also, you don’t want to put the vinegar in the soap dispenser.
I hope you found these helpful! Afterall, what’s the point of cleaning if it’s going to add toxins into your house?
Thanks for reading!
