St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations in New Orleans

So Mardi Gras is over and the days in New Orleans have resumed their regular rhythm. Only to run head-long into St. Patrick’s Day events. It’s never quiet for long in Nola!

There are eight parades in and around New Orleans and three block parties, all celebrating the luck of the Irish, not to mention individual bars, restaurants, and private parties. For a full list, please visit St. Patrick's Day New Orleans.

Like in many cities in the United States, New Orleans has a sizable population of Irish descent. There’s even a neighborhood called the Irish Channel, settled by Irish immigrants in the mid-nineteenth century. Between the cultural heritage and a city that loves to party (or as someone more eloquently put it once: “New Orleanians celebrate life”), St. Patrick’s celebrations are a natural part of the calendar year.

So, wherever you are, on St. Patrick’s Day this year, wear some green, find a clover, and raise a glass!

Thanks for reading, and check back on Thursday, March 12th to read about the health challenges of artificial dyes.
