Easy Toddler Costume— A Flower Child
Hey y’all! We’re now in “Deep Gras”---the part of Mardi Gras season where there’s one parade after another, culminating, of course, on Fat Tuesday. With lots of parades and parties, you need costumes!
Buying a costume for a little one makes almost no sense to me. The child wears it once and then outgrows it! Of course, if you can get a hand-me-down, that’s awesome!
The other alternative is to DIY-it.
My recent mission with all my craft supplies is to do one craft project a week, bonus points if the project can get completed in one week. Extra bonus points if the project uses up a supply. So when I set out to make a costume for B.G., I wanted it to be easy and use items I had on-hand. I decided to make a flower child dress. It was super easy and perfect for a toddler!
Supplies needed:
Toddler dress or shirt with long sleeves
Artificial flowers
Thread
Ribbon
Needle
Hot glue and hot glue gun
Scissors
Optional:
Mardi Gras beads
Here’s what I did:
Remove the petals from one stem of artificial flowers.
Cut thread and ribbon to match the length of the sleeves.
Thread the needle and string the petals along.
Push the needle through the ribbon and knot it. Do the same at the other end of the ribbon. Put a dab of hot glue on both knots.
Hot glue the ends of the ribbon to the top of the sleeve.
Steps to make the flower beads:
Remove the petals from the stems of the artificial flowers.
Cut your thread to desired length.
Thread your needle and string the petals along.
Knot the thread to the string of beads. Hot glue to secure it in place.
Twist the string around the beads. At the end, knot it and hot glue.
Happy Mardi Gras and go make a costume! If you do, post pictures! On Thursday, February 19th, read about some ideas to do with all of those Mardi Gras beads.
Thanks for reading!
